Is capitalism to blame for our healthcare woes?
In October, we posted about a New York Times article entitled “Shouldn’t Doctors Control Hospital Care?” (https://www.facebook.com/IndianaCitizens4HealthcareExcellence/posts/1957844474488391). Last week, Spencer Norton of Parkview Research Center added to the debate in his article, “It’s Not You, It’s me: Capitalism and Healthcare need Counseling” (https://www.linkedin.com/…/its-working-out-capitalism-heal…/). An excerpt:
“we’ve systematically taken an industry once run by doctors and nuns, and we’ve given it to corporate strategists and politicians”
Norton’s analysis concisely looks at the challenges affecting healthcare both broadly and in specific areas like the pharmaceutical industry, nursing homes, and hospitals. the entire piece is worth a read, especially on Black Friday, a day when capitalism is both celebrated and excoriated.
